welcome to the future

HTC’S 5G hub for the sprint (600$) is a mobile hotspot from the future. It’s a home or office modem for people who intend to use the 5G network as the primary internet connection, through the company’s network and service plan are yet to be announced.
The HTC hub looks like Amazon’s echo show on Google’s net hub: A compact, handsome smart display. With a 5-inch screen and grey fabrics surround, the hub looks attractive and professional. It measures 5.08 x 3.94 x 1.70 inches (HWD) and weighs 340 grams. It’s perfect for a desk, but not great for a pocket.

It is powered by 7,660 mah battery and comes with the chunky power adaptor. On the back, there is a USB-C port and a full-scale Ethernet port that can even be attached to external routers. Interestingly, the hub is running a full copy of Android 9.0 with all Google services on-board.

In fact, the homework as a small Android tablet, with a screen, no scanners, no cameras, and no traditional phone dialer. You can run video services on the hub and cast them to Chromecast or compatible TV’S. You can run music services and use the hub as a speaker. Or you can install pocketshare and use the hub as a NAS. It has a 32GB of onboard storage, 10gb of which is taken up by the system files, but you can add MicroSD card for more storage.

The hub is designed to turn sprint’s 4g and 5G networks into Wi-Fi. By using traditional cellular frequencies, a sprint can offer broad 5G coverage.
While the company claims that the device supports download speed of up to 700 Mbps, 5G coverage is available only in few US cities now. So, you are probably going to be on 4G for a while.
